Special Session on Advances in Computational Intelligence Methods based Pattern Recognition

Dr. Kai-Zhu Huang
Associate Professor, National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.

Dr. Jun Sun
Deputy Director, Information Processing Laboratory, Fujitsu Research & Development Center, Beijing, China.

Various pattern recognition tasks, such as object recognition and retrieval, image segmentation, reconstruction, and character recognition and document analysis, can be formulated and achieved from the viewpoint of computational intelligence or machine learning. Computational intelligence based pattern recognition is becoming more and more popular as it provides a different way to reconsider some basic and important CVPR tasks. The purpose of this special session is to bring together the researchers with interests in this promising and quickly expanding field.

Topics of interest include but not limited to:

  • Energy minimization based pattern recognition
  • Learning based objection detection
  • Learning Based biometric recognition
  • Computational based document analysis
  • Other topics in machine learning based pattern recognition
  • Applications

Dr. Kai-Zhu Huang is currently an Associate Professor at National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition (NLPR), Institute of Automation, The Chinese Academy of Sciences and a visiting fellow in University of Bristol, UK. He was a student of the Special Class for Gifted Youth at Xi'an Jiaotong University and received the B.Sc. degree in Engineering in 1997. He received the M.Sc. degree in Engineering from Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China in July 2000 and the Ph.D. degree from The Chinese Univ. of Hong Kong in 2004. He worked as a researcher in Fujitsu Research Center from 2004 to 2007. During 2008 and 2009, he was a research fellow in The Chinese Univ. of Hong Kong and a research assistant at University of Bristol, UK. He has published a book and over 50 research papers (15 indexed by SCI and 24 by EI) in journals (JMLR, Neural Computation, IEEE T-NN, IEEE T-BME, IEEE T-SMC, NN, etc.) and conferences (NIPS, CIKM, ICDM, ICML, CVPR, IJCNN, ICONIP, ICDAR, etc.). He is a member of IEEE and INNS. He served on the program committees and session chairs in many international conferences such as ICDAR, ICONIP, IJCNN, IWACI, EANN, KDIR, ACPR.
